Alec Wilford
Wichita State University Student

Alec is a Junior at Wichita State University majoring in aerospace engineering and minoring in ceramics. He was introduced to ceramics in high school. During his sophomore year at WSU, a librarian mentioned to him that the school had an exceptional ceramics program. A graduate ceramics student introduced him to the wood fire process and it became a focus of his work.

“I find the intense physicality of the wood firing process to be a welcome change from the math and physics based curriculum of my engineering classes.” Alec plans to work in the Aerospace field but will continue to make ceramics work. He is open to a graduate degree in ceramics or perhaps an artist-in-residency program. “I know that I will want to keep making and keep improving.”
